"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." -Helen Keller
Meet Felicia, a free spirit and adventurous soul. Felicia has a deep love for family and friends. Her family lives across the country from Michigan, to Massachusetts, all the way to Texas. Despite the distances, she belongs in all of these places. In fact, Felicia belongs everywhere she goes. That's because she embraces life and all of the adventures that come her way with a confidence and grace well beyond her years.
Her favorite memory from her senior year is first time she learned to ski. This winter, she went up to Crystal Mountain for a long weekend with her dad and sister. She was excited to try something new.
After falling a couple of times, she was ready! Persuaded by her new friend, Brendon, in no time at all, she was speeding down a Blue Square mountain and completely wiping out. Knowing Felicia, she was laughing and having fun the whole time, even when she was shaking in her (ski) boots.
Felicia met Brendon while she was at Crystal Mountain, a ski resort that is close to four hours away from her home. After becoming immediate friends, they discovered they live within fifteen miles of one another. Now they are dating, and Felicia has learned that it is indeed a small world, and the best things in life will happen when you least expect them to.
When you embrace life and opportunity the way that Felicia does, there will be no end to the amazing things that come your way. That's because even when things don't work out or don't go as planned, Felicia sees the light, the hope, and the adventure in every experience.
By the end of summer, she hopes to summit Mountain Washington in New Hampshire. Last summer, she tried to get to the top of the mountain with her childhood friend, but due to the weather conditions, they were unable to reach the summit. She also hopes to explore more of northern Michigan, specifically Turnip Rock in Port Austin. Getting out and adventuring Michigan with some of her very close friends is her ideal summer.
Her next chapter includes moving up to Central Michigan University to pursue a double major in Environmental Studies and Spanish, with a minor in geography.
Felicia explains, "The generosity of my community made it more affordable and lessened my student debts by awarding me the Lucielle Memorial Local Scholarship as well as the GAP Scholarship that can be renewable up to four years. I am honored to have received these awards and am so thankful my hard work ethic has paid off."
Felicia, I loved photographing you and spending time with you over this past year. You are an amazing person, and I know that you have amazing things ahead of you. Just be yourself and everything will fall into place. You already make the world a better place.
Much love,
Michelle Massey Barnes
