Meet, Claire. She has one of the most creative and entertaining solos in this year's Company C production. She gets on stage and sings her heart out in the most off key, horrendous voice that you have ever heard. The first time I heard her sing, I was completely confused. I suddenly sat right up in my seat and wondered what in the world was going on. When I realized that she was singing that way ON PURPOSE, I laughed so hard. I immediately feel in love with both Claire and her rendition of her solo in "Handful of Keys."
When I asked Claire what it was like to sing this solo on stage, this is what she had to say,
"Well I'm always really nervous when I walk on stage. I have a lot of energy when I get up there so I start dancing to work it off and then I start laughing at myself because I sound so bad. I don't know what the rest of Co. C is doing behind me but it's funny to watch people's faces when I start singing.
My solo is right after two beautiful solos and I like to see how confused people are at first. It's pretty embarrassing actually because there are always people that don't seem to get that I'm trying to sing badly! It feels great to make people laugh though! Like at todays show I dropped the microphone by accident and screamed...which got some laughs...mostly from Co. C. But I do enjoy being a gangly fool on stage."
Claire, you are wonderful on stage. Thank you for sharing your story. I look forward to your next performance.
