ANN ARBOR SENIOR PORTRAITS 2021
BEST LOCAL LOCATIONS
The end of the school year was anything but traditional after months of Covid related closures. I'm having a hard time actually believing that it is summer. But summer is here and that means senior portrait session has arrived as well.
I know everyone is waiting for haircuts and trying to get summer plans arranged, so I poured a glass of lemonade and dug through my archives. I found favorite portraits from so many senior portrait sessions and group them together to show you my favorite local locations. (Although I noted bathroom options in each area, I will help you make final plans dependent on Covid related closures throughout the season.)
1. Hudson Mills
Hudson Mills offers so much in a single location. There are fields and forest, a pine tree grove, and a beautiful river. Maybe best of all, there is a clean bathroom you can use to change your clothes.
The fall colors in this park are amazing. Schedule mid October for peak color options. You must have a park pass to enter, and you can purchase a daily or annual pass at the booth on your way in.
2. The Law Quad at the University of Michigan
Beautiful and elegant, the Law Quad offers Ivy League stonework, incredible arches, and many unique opportunities for stunning photographs. There is a bathroom on site, but parking is limited.
Weekend evenings are very busy, and you will likely share the quad with other people getting photographed. There is plenty of room for everyone, but you may have to wait your turn for popular spots. For a more peaceful session, schedule a weekday evening or a weekend morning.
3. Sharron Mills County Park
This quaint park sits between Chelea and Mancheser. It has beautiful stone work walls and more contemporary architectural options as well. There are woods in the back of the park that make a lovely background and there are often flowers in bloom in the warmer months. Although it sits along a river, the water levels are often low in the summer months. It is beautiful location, but not ideal for someone that wants river photographs.
Parking is close and easy, and there is a public bathroom inside of the Mill House.
4. Downtown Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor has a modern, urban feel with edgy, fun city locations. Think graffiti, train track bridges, and architectural backgrounds and buildings. I have favorite locations that turn out perfectly every single time, and I would love to include your favorite spots as well. Parking can be difficult depending on the time of day and location.
Bathrooms are best accessed by picking up your favorite iced drink at one of the downtown coffee shops. Weekend evenings are very busy and if you do not want street traffic in the background, I recommend planning your session on a weekday evening or a weekend morning.
5. Downtown Chelsea
Chelsea is a small town with an over all modern feel. The alleyways in Chelsea are contemporary and fun, and the fountain in the Clocktower Courtyard is a favorite summer and early fall location. Brand you photos with iconic Chelsea backgrounds including the clocktower or the train depot.
Like Ann Arbor, plan on picking up a coffee or tea at one of the local coffee shops so you change your clothes or use a bathroom.
6. The River Walk In Downtown Dexter
Dexter has riverfront footage and an old railroad bridge that is truly one of a kind. You can access the river at several locations in Dexter, and all of these spots are perfect for portraits When open, the library bathroom can be used to change your clothes, or you can stop into one of the coffee or ice cream shops downtown for a snack and an outfit change.
7. A Location With Personal Significance
This could be your backyard, a place you loved as a child, or location related to a hobby, sport, or activity that is a big part of your life. The possibilities are endless, and I would love to help you plan something that is one of a kind.
8. The Studio
The studio is a great option for either contemporary or traditional portraits. During your consultation, we will talk through background options and styling so your studio portraits match your personality. Parking is easy, there are no mosquitoes, and the bathroom is always clean and the refrigerator well stocked.
If you or someone you know is interested in senior portraits for the class of 2021 ( seniors graduating next spring), I would love to talk to you about a session with MMB Imagery.
We'll sit down together and plan your session, and we'll make sure everything we plan brings your personality to life. I want your portraits to be amazing and to look and feel like the real you.
Regardless of what Covid related closures take place this year, I can help you make sure your senior portraits celebrate your senior year in a way that really makes you shine. Drop me a note and I will be in touch.
Love and Light,
Michelle Massey Barnes
