And So The Adventure Begins
It seems like it was just yesterday that we were laughing together as we swatted mosquitoes and scrambled across rocks trying to avoid spiders. (Take a close look at the first picture below... see that big spider on the rock next to her? It didn't phase her in the least, but I sure didn't want to get any closer!)
We ventured out in the tall grass and into the prickers to get the perfect shot with the red flowers her mom loved. It meant avoiding bumble bees, and I held my breath hoping I wouldn't step on a snake.
A red-tailed hawk swooped behind her as I photographed her in the field. The late summer breeze rustled through our hair, and I was thrilled to be working outside with someone as comfortable and confident as Kellie.
Spiders, hawks, riverside walks and balancing on rocks... there is no way around it. From the moment I met her, Kellie was fun and full of adventure. Kellie meets life with a smile and with an excitement that makes others around her smile as well.
As her senior year is coming to a close and she is getting ready to head off on her next adventure, I know that these qualities will take her far in life. But she also works hard, and she is caring and compassion. She knows how to way reach out to others. There's no question. She is one of a kind.
One of her favorite memories from her senior year is going to Ford Field to watch the Chelsea High School football team play in the State Finals. She says, "It was such an awesome experience to share with the entire community."
Before she graduates, she hopes to do well on all of her AP tests.
That's who she is- someone who knows the meaning of community and friendship and someone that takes pride in her work and in her accomplishments. Even at the end of her senior year, she is dedicated to her school work and seeing it through until the end.
One of the other things that I remember most from my time with Kellie is the way she shared her session with her mom. It was important to her to have a photograph with her mom, and not only that, when she saw the image below, she knew that she wanted a copy to take to college with her.
As a mother with my own daughter, I can only hope that someone my daughter will want to take a photograph of the two of us to college to hang in her dorm room. Kellie and her mom have a lovely relationship, and hope to someday have a similar relationship with my own daughter as she graduated from high school.
In the fall, Kellie is off to the University of Miami in Ohio, and she's very excited to start college.
Kellie, I am excited for you too! I wish you all the best, and I know you have an amazing adventure ahead of you. May it be filled with community, friendships, love, and success, because you deserve all of that and more.
Congratulations!
