SPRING IS FOR CHICKENS
Have you ever wanted to photograph a chicken? Well, I have. Meet Pearl, Edith, and Stephanie. (Stephanie is the human.)
I don't know many people that would show up at my studio with 2 chickens in a crate while decked out in a silk dress, but if you do not know Stephanie Moran, you know she is incredible.
Chickens aren’t very easy to work with. They have a way of alway, always, always turning their chicken tushes to the camera.
Imagine two chickens pecking around for oatmeal flakes... it was nothing short of a miracle that we get both barnyard beauties looking in (or at least facing) the general direction of the camera.
The second thing that I figured out very quickly is that chickens don’t come when they are called.
Pearl Girl was incredibly unimpressed by my clucking. She did not reposed to my clicking or my clacking. She did not care if I said, sung, or shouted her name. But make no mistake. I tried all of these things. Repeatedly. If there was behind the scenes footage of this photoshoot, I would probably never admit to it. Ha ha.
This whole scene came together and all I could think was this is what it is all about... people having the opportunity to be their true self in the most beautiful, bold, fabulous way possible.
Stephanie, you rocked your chicken photoshoot, and guess what? Your portraits won bronze merits! Thank you for sharing your incredible self with me and helping me accomplish such a personally meaningful goal. Please tell Pearl and Edith they rocked their photo shoot too.
My personal take away here is whatever brings you joy is what brings you joy. So I encourage you to be exactly who you are. The world needs your bright light. And if you want to capture creative amazing reflections of your best and brightest self, look no further. I’m your girl.
How do you want to be photographed? Reach out and tell me anything,
Love and light,
Michelle Massey Barnes
