Morning and the First Frost
As I drove to work yesterday morning, the sun was shining down, lighting up the frost, and glistening on the leaves. I noticed the changes that took place overnight. In a single act, the frost changed an entire landscape. The soybean field went from yellow and full to brown and folded in upon itself. The leaves on the trees were glowing more brilliant shades of yellow and orange.
I think of this as the essence of fall, the actual change of one season into another. An act as natural as frost plays an integral role awakening what is to come.
We all have an essence inside of ourselves, something natural, beautiful, and powerful. When we put that essence out into the world, it too can change an entire landscape.
I live my essence each time I photograph you and really see who you are. You live your essence in so many unique, amazing, different ways, but in relationships to my work, you show me your essence each time you let down your walls and let me see who you are. It’s a dance and a transformation that touches our lives, but mirrored in the morning frost, I see that this transformation can touch an entire world.
In just one day, I talked with women about self care and healing, overcoming depression and the intention to commit suicide, the concept of sovereignty when self is seen as part of an interconnected whole, and moving from trauma too thriving. Our portrait sessions will include sewing machines and quilts, bubbles and rainbows, cloaks and (hopefully) crystals, laughter, love, wheelchairs, strength, and move beauty than than I can possibly imagine.
All of these amazing women are coming together to share their stories and to harvest the beauty of their life experiences. We are coming together to live our true essence.
Our essence is powerful, and we can transform and entire landscape. We are changing ourselves. Like the first frost covering the entire landscape, may we go on to change the world.
