Right now, I’m completely obsessed with tulle. It’s so beautiful, soft, romantic, and feminine. I love the way I can drape and wrap tulle to create a portrait worthy, couture inspired gown in a matter of minutes. Somehow tulle is enough to make women feel elegant and beautiful, and I can use the same soft fabric to make younger girls feel equally magnificent and special.
I think many different styles of photography are beautiful and breathtaking. When women want to be photographed in ways that define and reveal their shape, it can be incredible and artistic. Yet as a mother of a 10-year-old daughter, I feel our girls are being pushed sooner and sooner to wear shorter shorts, lower cut tank tops, halter tops, and whatever else is popular at the moment. I want my daughter feel confident in whatever she wears, but I want her to know there’s more available than the looks that are marketed to her on Netflix and in teen magazines.
I can’t tell you the number of times I've dressed my daughter in tulle only to have her say, “Oh mommy! I love it.“ That’s what keeps me taking her back to the studio, and it's certainly what is keeping me going back to tulle again and again.
Because she is only ten, I am wrapping her with more layers so her shape is not prominent in the portraits. I especially love the way it makes her feel beautiful and confident without being suggestive or revealing.
If you would like to experience this kind of session with your daughter or give this kind of experience to your daughter, please reach out. I’d love to talk to you about your own amazing tool creation.
In the meantime, as soon as the next ice storm passes by, you’ll find me in the studio tea staining white tulle and silk flowers and putting together soft pink fascinators and designing tulle skirts for an upcoming session. I told you I am obsessed! I can't wait.
Love and light-
