CAPTURING THE BEAUTY OF DANCE
“I’d rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach 10,000 stars how not to dance.”
– E. E. Cummings
We started planning this portrait session before the colors started changing, when the heat of the sun still felt warm on our faces. Jean, Eliza's mom, told me about her favorite walk in the Pinckney Recreation Area which is not too far from Ann Arbor. She walks out her back door and deep into the woods to an incredible valley where a canopy of trees display the most brilliant fall colors. We planned to head out in the woods together when the tail end of summer fading into the rich, crisp days of fall.
We waited (and waited) for the leaves to turn. When the beauty of fall finally arrived in full, we set out into the woods for our dance inspired fall portrait. I went into this session looking for the single best capture to submit to the Portrait Master's awards and accreditations. I am so happy to report that this portrait received a bronze merit.
As fall again turns to winter, I am planning to purchase a larger backdrop so I can photograph a wider variety of dance portraits in the studio all winter long. I would love to have you join me!
Love and Light,
Michelle Massey Barnes
