The afternoon was beautiful. The wind gently played with our hair and the sun kissed our faces. It was the perfect day for a portrait session.
We set this session up simply because kids grow up so fast. What can be done to hold these memories close? My idea was a dream like session out in the courtyard right outside our Chelsea, Michigan studio. The soft greens of the plants and leaves combined with the pinks in their clothes added a softness that compliments the loving relationship between these two sisters.
To make the set up even more remarkable, I pulled out my new chandelier, and we hung it from the tree branches. I think it adds a special touch even when it is blurred out in the background.
What I love about photographing sisters:
-Big personalities in little bodies. Big personalities in bigger bodies.
-Daydreaming about trips to Paris (and inviting mom along because "she'll pay").
-Refusing to wear pigtails and then giving in because Mom is right. It's so stinking cute.
-Baby sign language and big sister translating (notice the adorable way little sister points to her "watch" to sign "time").
-Big sister doing her best to make little sister smile.
-Singing together (and yes, big sister sings in harmony- after all, she does come from a musical family).
-Baby sister conducting the music as mom and big sister sing to her (after all, she comes from the same musical family). :)
-Reading together and turning an everyday scene into a magical memory.
Paul and Bethany,
thank you for sharing your beautiful family with me. It has been a delight to watch your girls grow. You are wonderful parents. When I see your daughters together, it is very clear that you are committed to giving them the gifts of music, unconditional love, and unwavering support. You continue to amazing me in the ways you help your daughters grow into the world around them.
Much love,
Michelle
